Higher paycheck costs for medical coverage
We know how important quality healthcare is for our employees and their families. That’s why, for the past several years, we absorbed the full increase in healthcare costs. As a result, we are not able to avoid an increase in your healthcare paycheck deductions, despite absorbing as much of this cost increase as possible. As such, we are passing down a portion of the cost to you – the first time in many years.
Beginning January 1, you will pay more for medical coverage through Hitachi Vantara. Keep in mind that even with this rate increase, our healthcare plans are still very competitive and well below the average within our industry and among our competitors. And all our medical plans will continue to provide you with comprehensive coverage for your unique needs.

Changes in medical and dental plan names
Employees will see new names for our two Anthem medical plans.
- The Anthem Silver CDHP will be called Anthem HSA Plus.
- The Anthem Bronze CDHP will be called Anthem HSA Core.
The MetLife Dental plans will also have new names in 2024. The Platinum plan will be the Plus PPO plan while the Gold plan will be the Core PPO plan.
You will see the new names in Benefitsolver when you log in to enroll or make changes to your 2024 benefits.
New healthcare plan deductibles
The Anthem HSA Plus plan will have a slight increase to the deductible, per IRS regulations. It will increase from $1,500 for employee only coverage to $1,600. For employee + family coverage, the deductible will increase from $3,000 to $3,200.
For Kaiser, the deductible for an individual within a family will increase from $3,000 to $3,200. Again, this change is being made to comply with 2024 IRS regulations for HSA plans.
Change in legal benefit provider
Beginning January 1, our legal benefit provider will be MetLife Legal Plans, which will cost you slightly less than ARAG but continue to provide you with valuable legal resources, including:
- Trust creation.
- Tax prep and filing via TurboTax.
- Digital estate planning.
- Enhanced divorce coverage.
- Caregiving services and more!
Choose from basic or plus coverage. The big difference is that the MetLife High Plan extends legal services to up to eight parents and grandparents.
If you don’t have legal coverage, Open Enrollment is the time to enroll in it. If you currently have ARAG Legal and don’t take action during Open Enrollment, you’ll be automatically enrolled in the same coverage level through MetLife.
The cost is as follows:
- MetLife Base Plan: $13.00 per month (compared to $13.68 with ARAG).
- MetLife High Plan: $17.50 per month (compared to $19.63 with ARAG).
Removal of dependent verification
We’re removing the requirement to verify eligibility when you add dependents to your coverage. All you’ll need is your dependents’ Social Security numbers to enroll them in your benefits plans.
Increased HSA contribution limits
The Health Savings Account contribution limits for 2024 are increasing. Beginning January 1, you can save up to:
- $4,150 (up from $3,850) for employee only coverage.
- $8,300 (up from $7,750) for family coverage.
- An additional $1,000 as a catch-up contribution if you’re age 55 or older.
Keep in mind that Hitachi Vantara makes a sizable contribution to your HSA, which also counts toward the annual limits, along with your own pretax payroll deductions.
- Anthem HSA Plus (Anthem Silver CDHP): HV’s HSA contribution is $1,000 for employee only coverage and $2,000 for family coverage (that’s more than half the deductible!).
- Anthem HSA Core (Anthem Bronze CDHP): HV’s HSA contribution is $750 for employee only coverage and $1,500 for family coverage.
- Kaiser CDHP (Kaiser CDHP): HV’s HSA contribution is $1,000 for employee only coverage and $2,000 for family
You don’t need to re-enroll in your HSA each year. Your current election will carry over to 2024. However, Open Enrollment is a good time to review your HSA and consider increasing your contributions, since new limits take effect January 1.
Reminder: You have the flexibility to increase or decrease your HSA contributions during the year. You can visit hitachi.us/benefitpool to make your revised election at any time.
