Life and AD&D Insurance
what you need to know
Protect your and your family’s finances in the event the worst happens. Life insurance and other voluntary benefits are available to you if you are a full-time employee scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week.
Basic Life and AD&D Insurance
Hitachi provides Basic Life and AD&D insurance at no cost to you through Lincoln Financial. You pay taxes on any coverage over $50,000.
Basic Life coverage is 2 times your annual base salary or benefit target compensation for select sales employees (up to $1 million).
If you die in an accident or are dismembered and unable to work, AD&D coverage provides an additional 2 times your annual base salary or benefit target compensation for select sales employees (up to $1 million).
Optional Life and AD&D Insurance
If you want extra Life and AD&D coverage, you can buy it — anywhere from 1 to 4 times your annual base salary, up to a maximum of $2 million.
If you apply within 31 days of your hire date, you may elect up to $750,000 in coverage regardless of your health status, as long as you are under age 70. If you are age 70 to 74, you’ll be guaranteed $20,000 in coverage. If you are age 75 or older, you are not eligible for guaranteed coverage.
If you don’t apply when you’re first hired, or if you’re already covered but want to increase your benefit outside of Open Enrollment or with a qualifying life event, you may have to provide evidence of insurability (EOI) — proof that you can be covered — before your coverage is approved. You may decrease your coverage at any time.
Note: Optional life insurance and AD&D insurance may not be elected separately during your new hire enrollment or Open Enrollment.
Optional Life & AD&D Costs
Optional life and AD&D coverage is age rated. If you reach a new age band within the year, your rates will increase accordingly.
Dependent Life Insurance
You may purchase life insurance for your spouse/domestic partner or child(ren). There are two options available; you can elect different coverage for your spouse/domestic partner and child(ren).
Spouse or Domestic Partner Costs
EOI is required for enrollment in the $100,000 coverage amount. If no EOI is provided, your spouse or domestic partner will be enrolled into the $50,000 coverage amount.
Child or Children Costs
EOI is not required for enrollment in either plan.
Business Travel Accident Insurance
Traveling for business can be a fun part of the job, but we want you to know you’re covered in case the unthinkable occurs. The Business Travel Accident (BTA) Insurance plan provides coverage equal to 3 times your annual salary or benefit target compensation — up to $1 million — in the event of your death or dismemberment. You’re automatically enrolled as soon as you’re hired.
